I want to go august 13-20. I plan to buy insurance through the travel agency. Are lines long at this time? What would the weather be like? What are perks/ disadvantages for going at this time? I have 2 kids ages 6 and 8. Thanks for your help!

We've gone in October and December and lines haven't been bad. We always stay at the Royal Pacific and resort guests get the express pass so we don't have to wait as long in line. We barely needed the express pass, the lines were not bad at all.

We were at Disney the week before Labor Day and it wasn't crowded, I would imagine that Universal would be about the same. Also, hotel rates were cheaper that week.

The weather will be hot, probably an afternoon storm each day. There will be the possibility of a hurricane as well. (june-october)

I can be more flexible with my time because i don't have kids.
I have heard that the slowest times to travel are the first two weeks in December and the first couple weeks of January.

I'll warn you - August is going to be hot, humid, and crowded. So pack clothes which wick away moisture and good walking shoes. The perk of traveling during this time is that it, most likely, works with you and your children's school schedule. The beach is also nice to visit in the summer because the water is like bath water - very warm.
The disadvantage is the heat/humidity and all of the people you'll have to deal with.

Learn how to work with the crowds. If there is a parade at the park you are visiting and you and your kids don't care for it - then this is a great time to head over to a ride you'd like to go on because the line should be shorter.

Any time from late spring to early fall the lines are horrible!! Everybody is there! Kids are get-n out of school around this time. I would wait til late fall. The weather is still nice (it's Florida, after all)

the best time to go to Universal Studios is early in the day right after they open.
