I really think the talent to remake or even make these kinds of classic films is gone or at least hiding. Anyone who would even try to reamke these films would most likely mess it up. No use in even trying.

I think one of the main reasons these films haven't been remade yet is because the theme revolves around Nazis. Most people now do not understand the hatred and fear of the Nazis so it wouldn't translate well to a remake. However, if they wanted to remake the movies with a new enemy (ie. Taliban), it might get made. However, since there are so many mixed feelings about the war now, it doesn't really make sense. In the wars before, the "enemy" was clear and everything was black and white. We "knew" we were the good guys. Now, the lines are blurred and it doesn't make sense to have a "bad guy" in a movie like that if you can relate to them.

I'm not so sure if it has anything to do with being smart, or not being stupid enough to think they can actually get away with trying yet another horrible remake of a classic.

I hope that they would not try to remake these movies. These are to classics and to mess it up with making a new version would just be a shame on whoever did.

Proabably not. It's just the good sense of the people who own the rights to these movies not to allow anyone to make a sequel. I'll bet my house that someone has pitched sequels for both of these movies.
