We want to raise our children in a good environment. They currently attend private school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I'm being offered a position with my company in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. We found some excellant private schools out there and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about what would be a better city to live in and raise a family. Thanks!

We just relocated from South Florida to the Dallas area last month. We chose to live in Plano, and so far we are very happy. We chose Plano primarily for the school system, which is ranked as one of the best public school systems west of the Mississippi River. The schools are exceptional, all rated very highly and the community is well planned, clean, and diverse. People here are also very nice and welcomming. Restaurants and shopping are first rate as well.

Plano is north of the city of Dallas, but probably would not be very convenient to Fort Worth. Arlington might be better if work is in Ft Worth.

I've spent time in both Albuquerque and in the Dallas/Fort Worth areas. I know it's a matter of taste and a job is important, but if I were offered that choice, I'd choose New Mexico in a heartbeat. No contest. I don't want to spend my life in a car, and that's what you'd get living in DFW area.

I think you will find Texas to be a mass of welcoming friendly people. There are alot of areas surrounding Dallas for good schools should you not go private. Among the best are Plano (but they can also provide alot of pressure on kids), some in Richardson, Carrolton and Coppel.

Avoid schools actually in the Dallas and Fort Worth school districts. People living in those districts usually go private if they can.

I lived in Plano, Texas before moving to Florida. I agree that it's a great place to live /great schools if your job is in the North Dallas area.

There are some really good suburbs in this area, and all of the amenities you can imagine, plus it is very culturally diverse. I think that is the job is a good fit, yes come to Texas, you will not be disappointed. Welcome

Flower Mound, Colleyville, Southlake and Grapevine (parts) are very nice places to live.
