Why do cab drivers get so many phone calls?

I don't think I have ever been in a cab in Washington DC where the cab driver has not been on the phone. They must have lots more friends than I do.

I think they work Tech support for Sprint.

they are getting calls for them to go pick up people. but if they are personal calls, it's prolly the same people over and over. i mean i know when im driving around all day i am always on the phone..not good i know but it's boring sometimes.

They take jobs over the phone as well
