I don't see the revelance to reptiles here but I will answer it anyway. One of nature's way of dispersing seeds is to make them undigestable so if an animal eats the seeds then moves away and deficates the seeds remain whole and viable. They then grow where ther are dumped (pun intended) and populate a nice new area. The kernels of corn are seeds so the above applies.
