I mean no offense, but it seems that the guitar seems to seduce undisciplined idiots into a dreamworld of thinking they're musicians.

Since the coming of grunge in the early 90s, then the prominence of mindless boy/girl band pop groups later on, to fabricated 'stars' on American Idol today, the guitar & knowing chops has taken a faaaar back seat.
Very sad actually...

I want to know what the hell are you guys listening to, it seems to me that with bands like Children of Bodom, Trivium, Dragonforce Mastodon,Lamb of God, In flames,The mars volta etc.etc.,gaining more exposure that if anything there is a resurgence of good lead playing as well as solo even in mainstream music I find a resurgence of guitar take bands like Incubus, My chemical romance, and older guitar centric groups such as the red hot chili peppers are experiencing renewed interest in there music.So personally I think it is people like you who hold others back with your asinine criticism and lack of relevant insight.

The guitar world has lost the art of the "solo, with feeling". It now seems to be "random picking, no thinking".

The guitar takes only months to learn the basics but a lifetime to master...so lots of people think they are good, but they are not.
