7-x=18
=>x=7-18
=>x= - 11

-x=18-7
-x=11
x=-11

I suck at math but am really good with things like this so:
1. subtract the 7 and subtract it from the 18. On the left, you will be left with -x and on the right you will be left with 11.
2. You divide out the -x and the 11 by -x. This will be like dividing 18 by a -1.
