Have fun!
Just use common sense, ask for help if you need it...
Bring something to keep you occupied, a book, magazine, game boy....Travelling is exciting, but waiting in an airport and flying gets boring.
Watch your bags, don`t put all your cash in one place.
Drink lots of water, get a good nights sleep and have a great time. :-)

Travelling is fun, I`ve been travelling around alone for years.

Good Luck :-)

First off, dont carry cash in your purse. Carry a few coins to use the pay phone, but otherwise keep your ID and a credit card in your pocket. That way if your purse were to be stolen, you will still have a way to get home and identify yourself.

Dont go anywhere at night by yourself. Dont walk down the street on your cell phone- notice your WHOLE environment.

While some people are nice, not everyone has your best intentions. So, like we are all told when we are young, dont take rides from strangers, and if something feels wrong it usually is.

If you happen to come upon problems of any sort, consult the local police.

Make sure a family member has an agenda of where you may be, and set up a time that you will check in with them every day.

You can still have fun being safe....

Oh and BTW- I love Chicago Airport- it is so HUGE and pretty!!!

Bring a book? Seriously, air travel is quite safe and unless you are wearing a sign that says, "VICTIM! RIGHT HERE!" no one will bother you. O'Hare is a busy airport. Do keep your purse at hand and any valuable out of site (I tell my wife this all the time.)

Here's what I do if I go through there: When getting off my first flight go to the nearest monitor and find out where my connecting flight departs. Go to that gate. Check in. Sit down and read until they announce boarding. If you have a long layover (hours) consider getting a bit to eat as there are tons of restaurants, fast food, and bars.

I was in the Navy back in the 80s and mostly flew into O'Hare. You'll see lots of sailors at O'Hare. If you are attractive ignore their marriage proposals.

Enjoy your trip.

Be careful with the makeup you bring to the airport....i had a bad experience where they took it all away because it was more than the maximum amount :P

Also, hold the zipper of your purse and make sure you don't carry too many valuables in it.(also speaking from experience)

AND HAVE FUN!

Don't take any wooden nickels. j/k
Know where you're going, know when you've got to be where, and keep your things close to you (i.e., keep an eye on your purse), stay among crowds, have a map and keep important phone numbers handy. Besides the safety thing... research what sights you want to see wherever you end up.

Yes. Go to the library and get out some travel books: Fodors or there's other books. See what they say about travelling solo.

Bon voyage.

Be careful, use your common sense in all situations, follow your intuition (if you get a bad feeling, move away from it) and always watch your bags..
