I would recommend a natural childbirth class instead. We used the Bradley method. It really works.

When I took a class when I was pregnant with my first, I thought it was interesting and informative. But most of the stuff didn't really click with me at the time. It wasn't until I actually went through labor and birth and then taking care of my baby that things started to make sense. By then it was more of a "what did they say to do about this?...oh I can't remember let's look in a book or ask someone." It's really hard to pay attention and remember everything you learn. It's easier to figure it out as you are actually going through it all. But going to the class does kind of calm your nerves and give you an idea of what you will be going through. I wish I would've paid more attention and practiced the lamaze relaxation they taught me, I think my first birth would've gone faster and I wouldn't have ended up with the epideral.

My aunt took lamaze classes and said that they didnt help her when she had her daughter, she said it only helps her now when she is stressed like Yoga lol. She said when it came down to the day lamaze was the last thing on her mind. I had my daughter 3 months ago and I didnt take any class, the nurses pretty much told me what to do and I did great. Thats what RN are for, unless u are planning on doing an at home delivery I dont think childbirth classes are needed. After the birth the nurses will tell you how to care for the baby.

The labor and delivery experience is so different for each person, it will be difficult for a single one day class to give you ALL the information. Talking with family members - your mother, grandmother, sister - will probably give you a better idea, although it won't guarantee you will have a similar experience. Taking the class can give you a good idea, but don't expect too much. They are pretty generic.
Good luck!

Ours was six weeks long and it was SO helpful! They cover inducing labor, labor, when to go to the hospital, stages of labor, medications used, instruments used, complications that could arise, what warrants a c-section, how the newborn is cared for after birth (at the hospital and at home), your post partum recovery....everything! It was SO nice understanding what was happening during it all! Good Luck
It was a lot nicer coming from nurses and doctor who will be caring for you. Plus, knowing the hospital's policies on issues like visitation and how many people in the delivery room is helpful. Plus, you meet other moms who will be delivering around when you do and that's nice.

I thought it was helpful but classes i went to more then one. what i remember being the most helpful was where the check lists. one on what to bring what to pack, and there was one what i want i to happen if my life or baby's was at risk, anther was what i happen during my birth with such questions do i want mirror so i can see the baby come out, who did i want cut the cord, did i plan on brest feed or bottle. they were starting points for things to speak to my husband about. What i found even more helpful then the classes where the women that i met in there. most of them were first time mothers too. one of women i meet is still one of my best friends.

My wife and I attended childbirth classes, and we found them very helpful. If you can get the father to attend, it will help him even more.
It is important to know what to expect when you are in the delivery room, as well as leading up to when you will be admitted.
Besides, many of them give out freebies when you attend.

honestly there is nothing more they can teach you then you can find on the net. the only difference is that one is told to you and the other you have to read for yourself.
