The exact dates are 1979-1981 and then it made an appearance again in 1999 before the Sacajawea dollar.

The coin in question was first released in 1979.It was mass produced that year and in 1980.In 1981 there were so many of the previous 2 years coins yet to be circulated that very few coins were minted in 1981.If you ever find a 1981 Susan B. hang on to it.Someday it will be worth a lot of $$$$ to a collector.
