In a way I am curious about why you are asking this! But okay. Let's do it. Basically what you want to do is find something really old that is in the Public Domain. It is possible to do so. How about some short stories from the early 1800's? But of course you still have to give the writer credit! Are you forming an anthology with commentary?

I'm curious too... But you could go to googles book project and search for short stories in their public domain (out of copyright) set of books.
