I've had two babies and didn't smell anything bad. Yeah, there's the smell of blood, but it's not overpowering and it's expected. No one even really noticed it. Everyone will be focused on you and the baby anyway. As for the poop, I know it can happen, but it didn't happen to me. I had a mild case of diarrea in early labor so I think it was my body getting rid of it before the pushing stage.

Not to worry - most of us are mommies in here! When I gave birth I really smelled nothing strange. One of my friends did mention that with natural birth you'll have a bit of a 'bloody' smell, but other than that: nothing. None of my friends who's gone through birth has ever said anything about a 'disgusting smell'. Oh, remember: if you're giving birth in a hospital, there always is that awful 'hospital smell'. Could that perhaps be what you've about?

I'm sure it is disgusting if you are expecting the smell of roses!
I would imagine it just smells like blood, amniotic fluid, and the occasional bowel movement when pushing. If it's a c-section, you'll probably smell burning flesh or hair, too (no poop).

I didn't notice anything disgusting during my two birthing sessions. But some people think babies smell disgusting, so it may be a matter of degree.
I would say whatever odor there might be is normal, not strong and certainly not disgusting.

I have had 4 children, normally and c-section, and have not noticed an overpowering smell. The baby has an amazing new smell when you first hold her/him after being cleaned up, but I always loved that.

I personally don't remember any bad smells and no one who was in the room stated that there was a bad smell. So maybe it's just a myth or something that happened to a particular person.

Nope.....never noticed a smell. The amniotic fluid if you had a infection would smell & 99% of woman have at least one BM while pushing so that may but the actual birth, nope

i don't remember any weird smells. but it has been five years since the vaginal birth of my oldest son. i panicked and passed out during the emergency c-section i endured with my daughter and i made them knock me out for the c-section i had with my second son. i will not be awake for the c-section i have with this baby either. my husband says he didn't smell anything weird during my five year olds birth but that the c- section had a strong scent. he said it was a strong blood smell.

I was too busy thinking about the pain to bother smelling anything! I'ld have to ask my husband if he smelled anything. I didn't have any pain meds so the pain really took up all of my brain power :-)
