Ah, one of my favorite arguments.
Harry Potter has brought a generation of young (and old) to their knees. We gossip about what is coming next, who is dead, who will die, who did what to whom. So many people have set aside their video game controllers to pick up the latest edition, turned off the TV to listen to the audiobooks. We've turned into a nation of raving lunatics, haven't we?
Since the beginning of the written word, there has always been someone who is offended by the ideas someone else puts to paper (or stone). Someone will cause such a stink that 10 other people will say - Hey, (s)he's right. But the logic states that the written word doesn't have that much power. Even the Bible, the most published, best selling book of all time, hasn't changed people's way of thinking. Let's be honest here: The Bible says 'Thou shalt not kill' - well, how many people actually die at someone else's hands every day. Saying that Harry Potter is turning a generation of children into witches and wizards is like saying that Robinson Crusoe turned our parents into pirates, that Gone With The Wind made everyone want to be slave owners, that Lord of the Rings turned us into little people with hairy feet wandering around looking for a volcano to throw a ring into.
Children today are stuck in a world of reality. Daily lives for most of the world's children suck. Whether it's divorce in the home, abuse, lack of parental guidance, or poor social conditions, many children live with death, disease, hunger and a host of other issues. If a book such as Harry Potter can bring a little spark of imagination to a child's mind, just think what they can accomplish. That poor child in the 'bad neighborhood' could become the next President, because they thought they could do better with their life. Because the pages of a book gave them the courage to stand up for themselves, their friends, their parents, their heritage.
Sure, go ahead and ban Harry Potter. But while you're at it, ban the Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and any other piece of fiction that contains bad things.

I don't think any book should be banned, especially Harry Potter. Why should it not be banned because it opens the mind, makes us believe in the impossible, it gets kids to read, something that this country is needing. I've read all the Harry Potter books and in all those books there is not one sentence or one simple belief that there is no God, that they should believe in magic and not God. God has nothing to do with it at all.

No. I am 20 yrs old and I love Harry Potter. I think that it takes the imagination to a whole new level. I know that some people will not allow their children to watch it because of the magic. But we can't please everyone. I know of kids that hate to read, but they will pick up a Harry Potter book and never put it down. I see no harm in it. I think that expanding the imagination is a good thing. Beside I know that if I could attend Hoggwarts I would!!

Definitely not. The arguements that children will start practicing witchcraft or what not because of Harry Potter is stupid. If people have a problem with the books then they don't have to read them, but it doesn't mean that they should prevent others from reading them as well.

Of course not, why should any book be banned? If you find it offensive, don't read it!
