Peninsula - A piece of land surrounded on three sides by water.
The classic example is the 'Wirral Peninsula' in England. Other peninsulas are Kamchatka in Siberia,, the Florida Peninsula in the USA.

Strait - A narrow waterway between two larger land masses. Examples are the Straits of Malacca between Malaya and Sumatra,, also the Straits of Gibraltar.

Island - A small land mass fully surrounded by water, and adjacent to a larger land mass. Examples are Great Britain and Tasmania.

A peninsula is like Florida: surrounded by water on three "sides"

An island is like Greenland: completely surrounded by water, with no connection to other land masses

And isthmus is like Panama: a narrow strip of land that separates two bodies of water and connects two larger land masses

A strait is like the Strait of Gibraltar: a narrow body of water that separates two land masses and connects two larger bodies of water.
