Unless you're planning on being outside for extended periods of time, anything that you are comfortable wearing is fine. I prefer mittens to gloves, myself, but that's because my fingers get really cold in gloves even if it's not that cold outside. And I like soft scarfs, not the scratchy wool ones, but that's just a personal preference. Actually I usually use earmuffs, because my ears are super-sensitive to the cold.

If you will be spending a lot of time outside, you may want to buy those little hot-packs that fit in your gloves and/or shoes (you probably won't need snow boots).

Make sure you dress in layers - folks around here tend to keep the thermostat at around 68 degrees during the day, at most. To me, that's plenty warm, but to my friends who live down south, that's frigid!

look, are you planning to be there forever or just a visit?
Leather gloves with fleece lining, wool gloves...just get
warm gloves. that's it. Scarves? Do you live in Hawaii?
Wool, polyester, just get a scarf..make it a long one so
you can wrap it around your neck a couple of times..okay? The coat is good. some gloves, and a scarf and you'll be just fine.
Just as long as you are warm . If you're in doubt I'd suggest
overkill. Better safe than sorry.

Thermal gloves are the best. Also, although several people mentioned that it has been unseasonably warm this winter, we also had a terrible cold spell two days ago. The weather in New England is totally unpredictable. Bring your winter clothes and your summer clothes!

Any type of gloves or scarf would be fine. Besides, it's unusually warm here this winter!
