moving upward, it bounces and the same happened when the needle comes down. What is more scary is that the speed meter will stay at 45mph and all a sudden it bounces to 60mph and it should be around 60mph. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong? Please help. I have a Honda Accord EX 1994. I never had any problem with this car before. The only time I had trouble was during a cold night when the engine acted very loud and won't turn off even though I took the car key out. Some people told me it was because of the ignition switch. But I am more concern about the meter which will casue me a lot of trouble if I don't know exactly how fast or how slow I am driving. Thanks in advance for those that can help.

Speedometer cable most probable. Pretty inexpensive to fix.

It sounds like you have electrical problems in the dashboard wiring potentially from water infiltration or some other modification in the dash like a new stereo. A friend had similar problems with his BMW after getting a shady friend of his to install an aftermarket stereo headunit and amp. Have a mechanic who knows electrical systems check the voltage and wiring for the dash and see what he finds. Be careful about your speed. My friend would just go about as fast or a little faster than the cars around him but ended up getting a few speeding tickets in a few weeks and losing his insurance and almost losing his license.

There's a damper in the meter movement that gets sticky and worn out. You just have to replace the meter.
