Ok. So I go swing dancing a lot I love getting new little outfits for swing dancing. I'm in love with the 60's style dresses, the way they poof out on the bottom and have polka dots and stuff. Do you know anywhere where i could find old cute dresses that spin really cool for swing dancing? if you do that would really help. thanks

Try higher-end thrift stores and vintage boutiques. You should be able to locate some in your local phone book. A lot of those dresses were custom made by dress makers in the 60's. If you can't find what you're looking for, you may want to contact a seamstress to make you some dresses. Vogue Patterns revived a whole collection of original patterns from the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. Hope this helps. Happy swinging!

The dresses you are talking about are definitely characteristic of the 50's. I used to go swing dancing a lot & I also love that type of vintage look. Your best bet is the salvation army but even then you have to be pretty dedicated to find something there.

Here's some advice on the swing look:
The peak of big band/ swing ranges between the 1920's (with the flapper style) to the 1950's ( to the puffy polka dot & poodle dresses).
1920's: The flappers- bobbed hair, long beaded necklaces, short & shapeless dresses that can be lowcut. I mean short like- just below your knees short (since that was scandalous at the time).

1930's-40's: Wartime look- more conservative, dresses sinched at the waistline- NOT at the HIP, short sleeved w/ collar< almost like a blazer. Nylons w/ the seam on the back. Nothing fancy since it was wartime. Also dresses, at the shortest, should be below the knees. Watch the movie "Swing Kids".

1950's: Housewife look/ cutsie polka dot & poodle dresses, also sinched at the waistline only with extra "poofiness" in the skirt. Dress also doesn't creep past the knees, should be an inch or more below otherwise it will look trashy. Plastic looking hair & even flat shoes. A ribbon in the hair or used as a headband also looks very 50's. Watch the movie "Grease".

if money is no option, then I'd say go to www.stopstaring.com. it's not 60's style there, it's replicated 30's, 40's and 50's style. A lot of the dresses on there are from a pattern called a "Swing Dress," which is PERFECT for swing dancing.

I'd find vintage stores, too. That would be the cheaper option.
