Same as any explosion, we are in the outskirts of that initial "big bang" and the force is still expanding the universe at a uniform rate.
This is how we tell if things are going away from us or coming towards us. ( Red and Blue Shift). The 2 theories at the moment are 1. that the universe keeps expanding forever, or 2. that the universe will eventually run out of energy to expand and will then start imploding to a "Big Crunch" moment, where the whole thing should happen again, like a heart beat!
