Is this like the same thing with "Dreamgirls"---what are there too many black movies in the theaters already. This is really beginning to tick me off. The movie is supposed to open NATIONWIDE and its not playing in Columbia. Is it just my town or what?

Its about marketing. I understand how you feel. The film industry does evaluations on how well similar genre of films have done from a revenue perspective. If "artsy" or "indi" films don't do well, they won't put it in your market.

Start supporting these films and encourage others to do so. Big actors like Will Smith, Denzel Washington and the like are aware of the problem, and they are using their influence to change that.

Hold on...hopefully a change is coming sooner to your town.

As Meryl Streep stated at the Globes. Complain to your local theatre management. Complain, Complain , Complain!
One of the AMC Theatres in Nola just started showing a few and we do have a small art house cinema but it seems to me they dummy down to the audience and maybe they should smarten the audience up.
We are finally gettin The Last King this week and Volver but we have had Dream Girls for awhile.
As far as Black Genre movies go there are some excellant ones out there such as Dream Girls and StompThe Yard. I don't get the Denzel thing either. He is nice looking but as far as acting goes, I will put my money on Forrest, he's amazing.
