The word "universe" encompasses everything -- EVERYTHING.

Astronomers normally do not talk about the universe, they talk about the "known universe." Empty space lies beyond what they believe to be our known universe, which they say started with the big bang. What lies beyond that?

Infinity is a difficult concept. If I ponder it for too long, it actually gives me a headache, but my human brain needs infinity. I mean, if space did actually have an end, what lies beyond that end -- and how far does it go before it ends, into what, and how far beyond that do you go before you come to ...

All this is the universe, the thing that encompasses everything including infinity. There is no telling how many galaxies resulted from how many big bangs in other parts of infinity. The number could be infinite, and it probably is.

Don't hurt yourself thinking about this too much.

Good luck.

If the mass of the Universe is aprox 2 x10^53 kilograms and having a densiity of 1x10^53kg/meter^3 ,and the mass of the milky way is an average Galatical mass equal in the order of 10^42 kilograms we can calculate aprox the number of galaxies that can fit in tne Universe.
Note this is a rough aprox. 2^53/1^42= 2 tenths of a trillion galaxies would fit in this Universe. And according to relativity theory of a singularity these Galaxies would compress to the size of a golf Ball? well maybe the size of two cubic meters.

If the universe expands infinitely, then the number of galaxies that would fit inside the universe is infinite.

The universe is infinite. So it can contain any number of galaxies.

Even if the unverise wasn't infinite we couldn't tell you how many galaxies could fit in because galaxies can come in different sizes.

Well, at least as many galaxies as there are.
