i'm not saying everyone has to like 50 cent, carrie underwood, evanesence, and norah jones (i personally do, lol), but can't comprehend how anyone could just completely hate rap or completely hate country music. trace atkins(move o'r thur with that tractor trailer size of a trunk gal) is very different from brad paisley(i'll love you when the day turns gray) even though they are both country singers. 50 cent(my ****** got that paper, shot up in the benz with a ho in the back) is very different from common(maybe we be together, share hearts while we lying in the sea together) and they are both rappers. i thought about writing this after a talent show at my college, this girl group was called names after they sang a popular country song just because most of the group would rather listen to justin timberlake(who is great too).
all i'm saying is show respect for others and how they express themselves, you may not like it, just respect it. i hope others feel the same way

I love everything you had you just stated.
It just shows that you understand and appreciate music more then others. Music is one of the greatest things we have. As far as your story about your class mates go, its probably social pressures and such, and maybe not 100% about music. But I completely agree with many of the things you said. When you say something is "rock" or "rap" its just a word to me. Its all music. Like you said, the difference between 50 Cent and Common is obvious. I can't listen to 50 but I enjoy listening to Common and Nas. I never understood how people could say, "That type of music sucks!" because it doesn't suck just cause you dont like it. I just think we all should embrace all sorts of music because its one of the last real "human" qualities we still have left.

Mostly people generalize. I would never say I am a rap fan because of the crap that is coming out today. A bunch of thug wannabes, but some classic rap stuff is awsome and there are a few around today but not many. So it's usually a general statement.

I love rap it's the best music to me but if someone like's other stuff like blues or whatever I don't make a big deal out of it.
