This isn't working. I tried turning it off, and I unplugged it from the computer and it's stuck on American Idiot, halfway through the song and I can't turn it off because it's stuck on lock. AM I DOOMED?

It shouldn't be wrecked because of that. Take it to the Apple Store and see if they can fix it.

You need to hard reboot it.
Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Check to see if you have the hold button turned on.
