Why is it that when a woman has an abortion, it's a choice yet if the woman smokes while pregnant, she's selfish? I would like to know why it's okay to end a life but it's not okay to smoke at all. I'm not pregnant nor do I plan on becoming pregnant in the near future. Some doctors say to completely stop smoking while pregnant and some say to cut down. Shouldn't women go by what their doctors say instead of getting slammed for our own beliefs? Just a thought.

I am a mom to an 8 month old boy and am 24 weeks preggo with our daughter. I smoked with my son and you all can look down on me but no one can make me feel any worse than myself for what i did to him. But this is more for all the women who are saying that you cause birth defects and harm your child mentally, that is crap. Do some reading on smoking while pregnant and the two obiggest threats to an unborn child from smoking is low birth wieght and pre term labor. My sis also smoked with both of her boys and one was born late at 9 pounds and the other was a day late at 8 and a half pounds. My son was born 5 days early and 7 pounds, there is nothing mentally or physically wrong with them. They are all smart boys and in fact have surpassed most of the "normal" time lines for achieving things like crawling and walking and talking! I regret everyday all of the days that i smoked with my son, but i can't take them back and can't believe that people are so ignorant to say that my child is mentally retarded cause i smoked with him. GET A LIFE...abortion is way worse.

Right. I dont get it either. I dont agree with abortion or smoking and drinking during pregnancy, and I think its crazy when a women on here will slam one woman for smoking while she is pregnant, but in the next breath, tell another woman its ok to have an abortion. Some people are just confused.

If it's not a life until it's born, why does it move all over, have a heartbeat, and cry, all inside of the womb. I'm 21 weeks pregnant, and you're just being ignorant if you don't think it's a life inside of me. C'mon...we're all a little smarter than that....

Smoking while pregnant is selfish. If it can cause any harm to your baby, don't do it! Abortion is about a million times worse because it is murder.

Look at this picture and tell me its not a life....

What the heck does smoking have to do with abortion? You will find people that would argue choice or selfishness in both instances, and many people who would say that both smoking and abortion are "selfish choices".

I also think you're confused - any doctor will tell you to quit smoking while pregnant, and if you can't they will encourage you to cut down, but you will not find a doctor anywhere who recommends cutting down but tells you not to work towards quitting.

I think both smoking during pregnancy and abortion is selfish and disgusting. Doctor's say if you CAN'T quit smoking to at least cut down. Not a single doctor will ever say don't try to quit, just cut down. Also, remember too though, even doctors have beliefs on abortions. My doctor is against abortion and refuses to treat women who have had one...it's her right as a provider. She will gladly refer to another doctor, but will NEVER treat an OB patient who has had an abortion. Doctor's are humans too.

I think that ending a life is way worse and don't agree with abortion as birth control. Now if the mama is in danger or raped, she should have a choice, but not for any other reason. I would never ever do either, but I think both are wrong. As for people who smoke and don't try and stop, its selfish.

And for the record, a baby is a baby when the heart starts beating stupid, thats just what people that are for abortions say to make them feel better about it.

When someone has a miscarriage we dont say sorry for losing you ball of tissue do we???? If a baby is premature and sadly die, dont people bury there babies???? Thats what I thought!!!

I dont think either one is right. I stopped smoking while pregnant. And I wouldnt have an abortion. But, Im not going to yell at or say anything to anyone about either. When you smoke while pregnant it constricts your baby's blood vessels and does not allow them to get as much nutrients and they could. This could cause a variety of problems.

who says its okay to end a life? many people may THINK it is...but in all reality if a woman gets pregnant its her own fault for not using a form of birth control, and just because SHE screwed up , a quick fix to people that think that way is abortion. as for smoking, i think that its better if the person doesnt smoke at all, but as i am a smoker, cutting down first THEN quitting is the best option. i'd like to see some of these ppl that dont smoke see what its like to go thru withdrawls from nicotine THEN judge people about their smoking...

Gah,,, People needs to stop worrying what people do. This is a free country and if a woman wants to smoke while pregnant then that is her and if she wants an abortion that is her not anyone else.

It is not a life until it is born alive and breathing on it's own.

I look at it like this. Anything that you wouldn't give a new born, you shouldn't do while pregnant. For example, would you give a newborn alcohol or cigarettes? Of course not. Raw meat? Of course not. Drugs? Nope. I think abortion is wrong and so is subjecting an innocent life to harmful substances.
