Yesterday I recieved a letter in the mail that invited me to be apart of the National American Miss (I spelt it right....).If you don't know what it is,it's pretty much Miss America pagent only for teens, pre teens, and youngsters.I don't know if I should do it or not.I don't wear make-up and I am girly but not to a point of caring completely about how I look.Do you know what I mean?Like..I take care of myself and clean my face and all that stuff but I don't spend hours a day working on making sure I don't get zits.If you're at all confused- just ask and I'll details.I just want to know if this would be a waste of time and money.I want to but I don't.Like, I want to show people that you don't have to be a barbie doll(meaning perfect) to win a competition.I'm skinny and all-I'm just kind of confused about why I got it in the mail because I never thought of myself as pretty and I kind of want to show people that you don't have to be pretty by today's standards to get into this competition

I've gotten a couple of those things in the mail myself, but I've never cared for pageants, and I don't have the desire/confidence to do it (especially the swimsuit part they sometimes do >_<. I don't wear bathing suits.), but if you think you have the confidence to do it, then maybe you should go for it.

Be warned, it will get EXPENSIVE, probably. I've had several friends that did them at one time or another, and the outfits can get extremely expensive.

I received those when I was around your age also. The organization has a list with girls names your age on it, they then send out their information to you all and wait for a response. I would say try it the worst you can get is a no. However, the norm at these pageants are "barbie looks" but like others have said, do you. Just make sure you have on a bit of makeup and a trendy, clean hairstyle and cute dress. Your personality is the true beauty and it will shine through. I have competed in several pageants and I'm also a professional cheerleader, it's just part of the business. If you are interested you can find sponsors that will contribute to the cost of things. By the way, check out the organization on the web or a reputable site like the Better Business Bureau where people can post comments about he business. Good Luck!!!

Ha ha Sounds complicated. Well I think I know exactly what you are talking about. I got pretty much the same thing. I got one in the mail and it was sent to me because of my dads business and the pagent was like sponsored by his work. Maybe that can answer the question of how or why it was sent to you.

Personally I think you should totally go for it. It sounds like it would be something you are interested in. And even if you don't win it will be a great opportunity and you will make friends. And don't worry, you won't be like the only inexperienced girl there.

I have done one and it was so much fun I just loved it, and I ended up winning my states pagent. It really was so much fun.

So I think you should go for it, it seems like you would enjoy it!

I personally hate girls I'm every way possible They call every guy creepy They think all guys are checking them out They block people on Facebook for no reason They are scary They do nothing but talk about how they hate other girls They are completely useless and can't do sh¡t to defend themselves They use nerdy/smart guys as tools to get their work done They only date the weed loving junkies that get high in the bathroom They can't drive for sh¡t They don't understand social anxiety They never text back They give out FAKE numbers They always beat around the bush They have random fits of rage They all love the same f*cking guy They can't take a joke Their voices are high and annoying They fangirl over things too much They scream like a dying cow They make themselves throw up They hate people who crush on them ...I could probably go on forever, but I won't. As long as you cease to exist, you should be fine!

Make SURE the letter is legit first. If it is, I'd say go for it, girl! How often is this oppurtinity going to come up, you know? And have some confidence. Show everyone how different can be gorgeous. It sounds to me like you've been blessed with the chance to do something amazing and to show that it's not all about, like you said, making your skin, hair, makup, nails, and blah blah blah perfect. I'm exactly the same and I can't STAND watching people stand in front of the mirror for twenty minutes practicing flipping their hair just right and applying lip gloss and...

Anyway, GO FOR IT AND KICK SOME!
<333 Break a leg!!

Most of that stuff is just scams and adds and things like that. But if you do some background check on it and its real, then just go to a pagent, any one works, and just look around. See if you can go back stage and look at everything they have to do to get ready. I personally think that pagents are a waste of time and is proof that the world today only looks at the out side of a person.

Most competitions of this nature require an entrance fee, it's how they pay the judges, rent of the convention center, etc. I would be wary of anything with an entry fee that seems outrageous. Also, be careful that it's not a school fishing for new students.

On the other hand, if this is a legitimate competition, go for it. You might learn a lot about yourself in the process even if you don't win.

I think you should do it. I think you might regret it if you don't. You will probably wonder what would have happend if you entered it... so why not do it. I think for the competition, you'd want to wear a little bit of make-up because you'll be on stage. Have fun with it and make sure you're doing it for you and not for someone else- like your parents or freinds. Don't ever let your doubts hold you back from doing some thing you want... good luck, I'm rooting for you!!!

Go for it if you want to. Just remember that it is stil a competition so bring what your ma ma gave you. I think that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I would take it if I was you. I could be a lot of fun and something that you could cherish for the rest of your life. But you'll never know unless you try. Go kick some princess butt ;)

Pagents are supposed to be more than outwardly beauty anyway, but it might open doors for other opportunities (such as modeling). Try it if you want...but it is a superficial world (so my model friends say) and pagents can be Cat-ie because it's extremely competitive.
