It is a legitimate school, and if you apply yourself, you will get a good education there. However, you asked how employers view U Phoenix, and I'll reply - poorly.

Of course, some employers don't care where you went to school, so long as you have the degree. But others - enough that I'm warning you about it - will not hire from U Phoenix and schools like it.

If it is impossible for you to go to another school - even another online school that's hooked to a more reputable "brick and mortar" university - in other words, if U Phoenix is your only practical choice, then go for it. But if you have the opportunity to attend a university with a better rep, then do so.

Some great universities that offer online degrees include:

University of Massachusetts at Amherst
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
University of Denver
University of Maryland
Duke University
Drexel
Carnegie Mellon
Penn State
Ball State
U Nebraska - Lincoln
Babson
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
University of Illinois

And there are others. But in general, when you're looking for a distance learning degree, try to find a program at a school that has a good reputation for their "brick and mortar" campus.

OMG, will people CUT with the back slash already? Where you get your degree does NOT play a part in how you will land a job! How do I know? Because there are Harvard grads walking around without a job! Gees. UOPX is as real as it gets. The only TRUE reason the school catches hell is due to the scandal that is going on with their employer (Apollo Group).

Secondly, I'm tired of people whining on how their classes don't transfer to other schools and concluding that the school is a fake because of it. This is a STUDENT problem and not a UNIVERSITY problem. It is the STUDENT'S job to be sure that the school they are transferring to accepts credits from UOPX. This is why you do your homework BEFORE you enroll. This is a common problem EVERY university has because there are no equivalent curriculum matches for the course that you took with your first school. This is the EXACT reason why high school seniors fight for their chances of getting into a school as an incoming freshmen so they don't waste thousands of dollars on courses that won't transfer to their top school. I have an AA with UOPX and was able to transfer over to three different schools including my dream school. Again, so just because your classes don't transfer or you're not getting hired does NOT MAKE THE SCHOOL A FAKE.

Definitely not. For a revealing look at U of P check the article in the New York Times for Sunday Feb 11, 2007. You'll be glad you did!!! Go for a degree at your local state univ. It may take longer, but in the end, you will have a degree that everyone will respect, and you will have a real education, not just an empty piece of paper....

Any degree/diploma from the "University of Phoenix" has no standing whatsoever in the academic world. As soon as someone MENTIONS the "University of Phoenix" there are hoots of laughter....or raised eyebrows...or a number of other things....all of which indicate that 'graduates' of the "University of Phoenix" have been given a snow job...and a degree/diploma that is worthless.

Hello everyone,

Well it really depends and as you can see form other replies here it really has some mixed opinions. Either way, if you are interested in a distance degree I would always recommend to check out some local community colleges. If you want to look into other online schools that are reputable and regionally accredited, you might want to have a look here:

Hope this helps, Lucy :)
