Mkay... I am not a very shy person, and Ive never found it hard to make friends... I am in my second year at college, but I have yet to make one new friend, i mean I'll kinda talk to people if I have to, but I basically stick to myself, I go to class and then go home. Im thinking about joining my school newspaper or some type of club but I am afraid I wont have time with school and work ( I work close to full time)... i was really looking forward to making new friends when I started college but its been really hard for some reason. I dont know if it is becuase I live off-campus or what.... Anyway, I just wanted to see if anybody has some advice. Thanks.

Everyone thinks college is the time to party ... make friends and go crazy ... it sounds like you have your priorities straight and you know what you want ... friends take time ... start hanging out with co-workers ... hang out at the local " hot spots " and talk to people you recognize from school ... be a little more open-minded to people ... not everyone bits ... lol ... good luck hope you meet some new friends soon ... !

This is a hard one. I must say find those students that have the same interest as you. For example start off by saying what's your major and then it may take off from there. I don't recall making much college friends either and I am extremely extrovert and super friendly. I am still in touch with high school friends and no one from college. Don't be discouraged in the meantime you can try joining some kind of activity as you indicated. Take it from there. Making permanent friends in college is no easy task. I was on the volleyball team and I still don't have friends that I stayed in touch with from college and we are talking 17 years ago. Get the message. I believe your child hood friends are the friends that stick around for a long time.

You know I actually had plenty of friends when I started college (I'm 21 now) and I was very hesitant to make friends my first year of school, but in my second year out of nowhere I just started to be more friendly and outgoing. I guess my personality came out a little bit, because I am an English major and I wrote some stories for creative writing so that kind of helped, but i also turned very social in school out of nowhere. I am actually looking forward to going back. Best of luck.

Well I graduated college about a year ago and I commuted as well. I made friends when we had to do group assignments. I also made friends with the people who were majoring in the same thing I was because we were in almost the same classes. I hoped that helped

I suggest you try to talk to more people then you do. Maybe set a little time aside for yourself and ask one of the people you talk to too hang out at your house or soemthing. I realize your inn college but maybe it will be fun. Just be really nice, friendly, actually better then that be yourself. :] Don't change yourself to get more friends.

I think you are on the right track get involved in something at school. You sound mature enough to know when it is too much on you. Just do your best to maintain your grades. It is always okay to tell someone you have to much to handle and turn down things if they get in the way of school.

Most likely because you live off campus.
GO to study groups and stuff like that.
Invite class mates to your place for study group.
OR move on campus, go to parties.
Get a room mate.
