Choristes, Les (2004)....also known as "The Chorus"
It's a French film that was nominated for an Oscar in 2004. Set in 1948, a professor of music, Clement Mathieu, becomes the supervisor at a boarding school for the rehabilitation for minors. Despite a repressive headmaster, Clement tries to transform the students by starting a small choir. It is sooooo good. I always cry at the end, but they're happy tears :)

The Audition was awesome, but I have to say City of God. It's about a gang of teenagers in Rio de Jinero, Brazil in the late 60's early 70's that pretty much run the town with drugs and violence. The main character tries to escape this life through photography, and it is based on a true story.
Also the Edukators was good. It is a German film about several people that try to "Edukate" rich people that they don't need all their possesions, until something in their plan goes terribly wrong. Think Robin Hood meets Suicide Kings.

I have to agree that life is beautiful is one of the best films I ever saw.
But also I liked a french film called La Haine (The Hate)
A film maybe ten years old now but still very very good and probably more apt now, due to the political unrest in france.
Look it up, absolute quality.

Life Is Beautiful. It's an Italian movie of a man and his son in a World War II concentration camp, and to keep his son from realizing how horrible it is, the father pretends that it's a huge game.

This is the original version of Vanilla Sky. By far better acting and script.
Available through Netflix with subtitles in English.
