Why does it have to be expensive. There are a lot of great restaurants in LA that are reasonably priced.

Millie Riera's Seafood Grotto
1700 Esplanade
Redondo Beach, CA 90277
310-375-0531
With the most easily accessible panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, Millie's is a local choice for seafood served Italian. Across the bustling Pacific Coast Highway, sitting up on a small hill, this unassuming, pueblo-colored, Spanish brick building is pink and homey inside, appointed with multicolored overstuffed chairs and booths. Twinkling lights surround the ocean view bay windows and the comfort level of the food and atmosphere is high. The multi-paged menu offers fresh seafood dishes served in Italian and American styles, with a few Mexican accents.

Try Nick and Stef's Steakhouse in downtown. It's part of the Patina group so it's great eats...I'm not sure if it qualifies as being expensive, but just like someone else said, there are a lot of tasty restaurants in LA that are reasonably priced.

Try checking out www.opentable.com. You can sort restaurants by price range, cuisine, and neighborhood. I don't usually use them to make reservations (I prefer to call the restaurant directly) but it's a good source to see what's out there.
