When you're filling out an application for a job, the question... "Have you ever been known by another name?" What should you say if you've gotten married and changed your last name to your husband's name?

It seems like that question is refering to names you might have some kind of bad record under. Is that the case or do they mean ANY other names? I'm always confused on how to answer that one.

No, it means your maiden name. For an example it asks all previous names known under, and your maiden name is Smith, put down Smith. Also it goes for nick names as well, like some jobs called me Jackie and others go by my real name.

This is for background and previous employment checks. So when they call your previous employer and they only knew you under your maiden name, then your new employer will know to offer both names.

I hope this helps. Good Luck! =)
