I LOVED living in Nebraska. My husband is military and we were stationed in Bellevue, NE, which is a suburb of Omaha. The school systems were excellent, housing prices livable, high property taxes, though. Bellevue has a population of about 50,000 but still has a very small town feel. Two high schools, two middle schools. They have one of the best zoos in the country, art museums, broadway shows come through, as well. There is tons of shopping and you can still drive 50-55 mph during rush hour through I-80 in Omaha. People who don't work at a store will go out of their way to help you find things. They tend to also merge in traffice better, very few crazy drivers - speed limit drivers mostly. Winter is cold, summers are mild, but very hot in August, with no humidity - coming from AZ it will be bearable. City is laid out in a grid system, like the Phoenix area - every 12 blocks is a mile so everything is easy to find. Good luck, hope this was helpful!

Nebraska is a great place, its just underrated. I grew up there and moved to Texas when i was 16, and now at 30 i am trying very hard to move back. I recommend that if you want to move to nebraska you look toward Lincoln moreso than Omaha. Lincoln is a city on the grow, with lower crime rates, cleaner city, better schools, and better opportunities for employment. I will warn you that it is alot colder there, climate much more similar to Iowa then Colorado. The people in Nebraska are good down home people, and i wouldn't trade them for the world.

I live near Omaha and would love to trade places with you. It is a good place to raise a family and the cost of living is pretty low. Omaha is growing and you should be able to find a fair paying job and a nice house without too much trouble.
Downsides - the weather is horrible. It's always windy out, except for the one week in Spring and one week in Fall when it is beautiful out. The rest of the time it is hot and humid or freezing. The property taxes are through the roof and there is no hope of passing any laws for tax relief.
Upsides - cheap homes, fair pay, no tourists.

I loved Nebraska when Iived there between 1983 and 1993. I try my best to go back as much as possible. I lived in Lincoln and still have family in Omaha. You could start looking at opportunities in that area before you move.

Nebraska is great but your will have to find your mojo. Its charms are not always readily visible. If you are a college football fan this place is a mecca. Golf courses is suprising good in Nebraska too but the wind can be tricky. Check out this web site for good Nebraska job postings - www.careerlink.org

I've driven through it and it was nice I suppose. There's a lot of wide open space for you to get really bored in.
