Every doctor I asked about that when my daughter was born told me as long as the bottles and nipples were washed in hot soapy water that it was fine. Sterilization isn't as necessary as it used to be, was their opinion. So, I never worried about it and washed everything by hand in clean little tub that would set on the counter next to the sink. I would think whenever you want to switch would be fine.

We figured once they were eating toys off the floor and eating off of a spoon and out of a jar the sterilizing was no longer necessary. BUT my husband was in such a routine of boiling the h2o in the mornings he kept doing it until about a year...he said it didn't hurt anything as long as he had the time to do it.

i never sterilized bottles. i did it once and my daughter got thrush. after i stopped she was fine. the nurse told me that i didnt have to do it. there is to much sanitizing nowadays and she said it was better to just wash them with soap and hot water.

I always heard that by about 5 months its fine to stop - another way to sterilize is to boil them in a pot of hot water...its faster!

i used to boil my oldest daughter's bottles, nipples and nipple rings 21 years ago....what a pain...the nipples always came out misshapen. when my middle daughter was born 16 years ago, the nurses told me they strongly advise AGAINST boiling and sterilizing...just to use hot soapy water and rinse well.

I sterilised my bottles up to about 6 months, at this stage my kids were sitting up putting toys in their mouths. I thought if they are putting toys in their mouths there bottles don't need sterilising.
