And how is 'scab' labor any worse then organized labor? Aren't they both workers?

Unions require dues to be paid so they can go about their business. McDonalds workers don't make enough money for the unions to be interested. It's always about the money. "Scab" labor is done by workers who want to work for the wage offered, in place of those who don't want to work for the wage offered. This term us usually used by those standing outside a workplace, holding signs, while others who do want to work are going in to do the job that needs to be done.

Not enough money or stable employment to interest union workers, who are skilled whether it be nursing, teaching, building trades or truckers or miners. Scab laborers are brought in to replace union workers who are on strike. By business bringing them in they further destroy the middle class. And those scab workers who cross picket lines keep the business going while the union workers strike for better conditions, so business doesn't have to come to the bargaining table in good faith. Many of those scabs are the very illegals that are so despised in so many parts of the country. They take the good jobs for less money and benefits so the business gets more profit and the country gets less taxes because the worker get paid less and that leaves workers subject to the paternalism (if they're lucky) of the bosses instead of a level playing field between workers and management.

It takes several months to unionize a location or company and usually the motive for joining is that you feel like you've climbed as far as you can up the ladder and now you want to shore up support underneath the rung you've ended up on.

The staff of your average hamburger joint turns over about 80% in the six or eight months it usually takes to unionize a location. So the union would just be in this never ending cycle of trying to convince someone who just got his or her first job to join the union and take on management, a hard sell to people who assume, for the most part correctly, that they're going to move up anyway.

Simply put, entry level workers six or eight months later are no longer entry level. That is why the "income gap" is kind of like the "prom gap" between freshmen and seniors in high school.

If that happens, get ready for a $10 Big Mac. Unions extort an artificially high wage for people whose skill sets are minimal.

Unions support the fat pockets of their leaders. There was a time before comprehensive labor laws when they did good but that time has passed. They now cut production and put people out of work using intimidation.
I am a conservitive if that matters to you.

Labor unions are more often, though not always, more effective for professions that take a long time to learn, like electricians or auto workers.

A scab for a profession that takes 1 day to learn is hardly a scab.

because mcdonald's is mostly staffed by teenagers who don't give a crap about insurance. that was what organized labor won: benefits and shorter hours and a minimum wage. the difference now is that many places aren't organized because they hire illegals or teens or other groups that are less likely to care.

Damn unions! They got rid of 7 day workweeks, 14 hour workdays, child labor, poverty wages, unsafe work places, and abusive management practices. I agree with you conservatives, we should bring them all back. Screw honest hard-working citizens!
