"Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword
Like punching under water
You never can hit who you're trying for

.........
........
.......
.........

Everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
Everyone believes
And no ones going quietly

We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this
If belief is what we're fighting for".

What are your thoughts? I'm just curious on people's thoughts. There are no right answers, and I will not judge you based on your opinion. This is more of an opinionaire, really.

John Mayer, "Belief", from Continuum.
(this song is a good song, so listen to it in it's entirety)

Very interesting lyrics, but I don't quite agree.

If someone honestly believes in something, then it means just that: they honestly think that whatever they believe in is true. The problem is that a lot of people say the "believe" something because that is what they have been taught to believe, or because it is what their peers say they believe, but they don't honestly truly believe it.

Take Christian beliefs for example: Many many many people who claim themselves as "christian" do so not because they honestly believe it, but because that is what their family or their friends say that their religion is. Not only that, but in America people seem to regard christianity as the "default" religion, like people say "well i'm not anything else, so I must be christian".

In brief: If you truly, honestly believe something, then its worth fighting for. If your just "believing" something because everyone else is, then you need to take some time out and figure out your real beliefs. (This extends to every aspect of life, not just religion).

Wonderful poetry, hits right to the point. Our mental ability to think..Is our thinking would be considered as an ultimate truth? However our beliefs originated there. Would it be so that our knowledge we collected out of linearly logical thinking is less than perfect? First subtle appearance of belief would be found there. Somehow we believe without deliberation that ones own knowledge is a foundation of a future Truth. Our beliefs based on knowledge we recklessly passing one to another....Institutions standardize and legislate knowledge in forms of only existing Truth and so on..there we are..with our beliefs, trying to create..Vicious circle, we do not know what laying beneath of everything..we guessing and our guessing is an ultimate loses, wars later on .Yes belief would be considered as creational tool, yet, we have no idea how to use it. In most cases our intentional belief manifesting in reality as exact opposite ... Perhaps, existence of many different and contradictive beliefs in one's own mind gives that reverse...Beliefs is matter of divisions which is a parent of zillions of "opinions" peaceful or warlike...Evidently beliefs is many, Faith is a single unit...Using term 'faith" in order to define religion is an error Belief is foundation of religion. There is a huge difference between belief and Faith..No religion in the world giving clear definition what Faith is..but trying to confuse belief and Faith, Surprisingly we all know, without being able to verbalize it... Faith offer instant manifestation of that which we want to see. We disbelief in Faith at first place, that would not be possible in a world we live. Well, disbelief is nothing else but another belief, creational tool, which states that we believe
The ultimate answer is there...in undefinable...

love this song...love most of the the CD. john mayer's music has really matured, and is quite insightful.
jack johnson, dave matthews, ben harper and michael franti also have some great songs with this same theme.

i think this song will accomplish much...it will provoke thought!
its time to take a look at WHY we are really killing each other, and if anyone can ever really " win the war".

Belief is not seeing or touching, For many people can believe what they see. The true meaning of belief is faith in what has been taught through God. Belief occurs at that moment in life when there seems to be no answers left, but in your heart you have that calmness that overwhelms you.

song is ok, but beliefs are not a good thing. there is a great movie called dogma, in which chris rock's character has some very insightful words about beliefs. he says that ideas are better than beliefs because ideas are easier to change.

Belief is dependency, It is born of fear and ignorance. The mind that is stagnant and does not have the interest to discover the truth is a believer.
