I handed in an application for a job the other day. The manager was very impressed with my resume. He told me that he's too busy to have an interview right now but wants to talk to me. He gave me his card and told me to call him Saturday morning if he doesn't get back to me by Friday afternoon. There's no question, I'm going to be calling him first thing in the morning. But is this a test to my character traits or what? FYI, the job is as a bartender if that helps. I think he wants to see if I'm outgoing or the quite type that will stand by and wait. What do you think?

Whether it is or not, don't you have something to gain by exhibiting behavior that would be seen as a success factor in your position?

I would consider it an invitation to pursue this opportunity and nothing more. I agree, bars are the quietest in the mornings and, even if it is a test (of what I couldn't imagine, I can't see how it would go to your character, if you don't follow up it could mean many different things such as you got a different job), so what?

This manager is pretty lazy though, he should have made an appointment with you, a solid date and time. Perhaps he isn't sure if he will be able to make it. I would keep an eye on his character, a job is hard to quit once you are invested, you don't want to work for just anyone.

Nah, I don't think it's a test. I agree, Saturday is probably less busy for him. But given that he is adamant about talking with you, sounds like you're a perspective employee, especially talking with you on a Saturday. Just wait, and if no call, then give him a call on Saturday to show some initiative.
Good luck to you! =)

I don't think it's a test but I would call him as soon as possible if he has not contacted you, if for nothing more than to show him you are dependable and have a respectable work ethic. Two super important traits that I expect and respect in those that work for me.

Managers, especially if he is an owner, have extremely busy schedules, Saturday morning may be his only free time.

I'd say it is not a test.

It may be just to see if you will do what he asks. I would call him.

Of course, he may just be forgetful, and this is not a test at all. lol

Good luck with the new job. If you call, sounds like you will get it.

I've seen this happen before.

He is obviously gay and this is his way of testing whether you are interested . . . not in the job . . . but in him.

If you are guy - well done - you have pulled and got a job at the same time.

If you are straight - watch your back as you pour those COCKtails.

it is not a test. he doesn't have the time to play telephone tag with you. he would rather have you call him, then if he is busy, he can dodge your call, forcing you to call back. it is easier for him to make you call back than for him to keep trying to call you.

Call if he does not call you.
