There is a little pain wth dilation of the cervix. There is some cramping and pulling with the suction tube and some cramping for a day or two afterward. There is some light bleeding usually too for up to a week. It is more emotionally painful than physically painful. If you come to grips with having an abortion, it is much less of an emotional crisis. I don't think it's ever easy, but if you have made up your mind that it has to be done, it is much less traumatic.

It looks like not many of the people giving answers here have actually had an abortion. I have - at age 20. I was single and in school. I could not afford a baby and was in a relationship that could not withstand having a baby. I was using birth control all of the time and becoming pregnant was truly an accident. I had an abortion at about 9 weeks of pregnancy. I have never really regretted it. I made my peace with God a long time ago and I am not ashamed about my decision. I went on to have three lovely daughters in due time - when I was married and ready.

Some kind of painkiller is used in all abortions. Most women feel cramps. You may have cramps during and after a vacuum aspiration. You will feel strong cramps with medication abortion — which is done with medicine instead of instruments.

The level of pain varies from person to person. Both medical and surgical abortions cause some amount of cramping. These cramps can feel like light to heavy menstrual cramps, like when you get your period. Most women report cramps that last from five minutes to a half hour. It is normal to experience some bleeding during and after both the medical and surgical abortion. You can use pads like when you have your period. Most women find that Tylenol is enough to help with their pain, and they are physically capable of returning to work or school after a surgical abortion.

I've never had one but someone close to me did. She said it's not really that painful depending on how far along you are. You can not drive yourself home in mos cases but you are fine the next day. And this is a fact you have a higher chance of dying giving birth then having an abortion.

I had a Local which knocked me out completely. Because I didn't want to remember any of it after. When I woke up I was groggy and i felt like throwing up. I remember the pain i felt down there hurt like heck. Also the bleeding didn't help the pain go away either. They hurt afterwards.

It's a very painful experience....both physical and emotional....at least it was for me.The best way to describe the physical pain....like someone is trying to rip your insides out.The only good thing about the physical pain is....it stops after a while....the emotional pain on the other hand....is something you have to deal with for the rest of your life.If I could go back in time....I would not do it again.

I haven't had any personal experience with this, but most women who have had them say it's uncomfortable, but not really painful.

It's the emotional side effects that are the big worry.

You'll have to find someone you trust that actually had one, because none of these crazy people on here are going to try to help you........I've heard it's not bad, and if you take ru486, it's just like bad cramps......

p.s. No matter how bad it feels, I'm sure it's better than childbirth!!
