Alright so my parents are education orienated (sp). They made me take advanced classes through high school that I would pull a C+ or B- in, I was always a year or sometimes even 2 years ahead of everybody class wise. Im not the smartest guy around though, and I cant even imagine another 4 years of school after high school.

Ive talked to my counselar at school (ex-Marine), an Army Recruiter, and a Marine Recruiter. I WANT to enlist in the Marines and get an associates degree in Criminal Justice (I already have 12 of the 60 credits I need) while Im enlisted, but have no idea how to break it to my parents.

Im in good shape and can easily do the IST at the recruiting office and have good ASVAB scores, I want to enlist as Machine Gunner. Im sure you know the kind of parents Im talking about; all pro-college and my mom is totally anti-me going to the Military but my dad always supported ROTC or the Academies. But I WANT to enlist and get an associates degree from there, REALISICALLY,

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! way to support this country! We need more young men like you! My husband is a marine and did one tour in Iraq and i couldnt be more proud of him. Eventually your parents will feel that pride too. : )
Just tell them you have made up your mind, give them all the PRO's and tell them your feelings about college.......if you hate school that much you 10 times more likely to fail out or get crappy grades.
Good luck to you and best wishes!

Get all your information about the marines and about being a machine gunner. Talk to your parents about it and give them the facts. Tell them why you want to join, and tell your mother that you arn't giving up on college. If you need help, have the recruiter talk to them.

My boyfriend's in the army now and when i first heard he was going to join last year i was completly scared, but now i'm so supportive of him. He wanted to do something more with his life.

Why dont you try to get into the academy? You get an excellent education and defer military until you are older. The Military Police are very good training for a career in criminal justice. This option may please both parents- good school -military later when you are older and Mom more resigned to your choices.

the best thing to do is be prepared for all there questions. don't lose your cool. explain to them as calmly as you can what you are going to do. do not say what you want to do tell them you are going to do this. be sure of yourself. and they will follow suit. if things start to get heated. tell them "i can see things are getting a bit off tract here why don't we take a few min. to think about this and meet here again in say half an hour?" good luck too you

I think they'd go for it, except the fact that you'd be sent to IRAQ as soon as you finished basic. BE very careful with the army and the other branches of the gov't, they don't tell you everything that you need to know, but if its really what you want to do then go for it. Good lUck!
