I think the black pearl one was the best as it introduced the characters in a simple but effective way. Also for some reasons i feel the concept of cursed treasure making them the undead is more believable than a man with an octopus beard (I have no idea why i think this) The second film just made it more complicated with new characters thrown in especially will's dad, the fact babosa is back?! and that all these pirates running around after a deadmans heart?!

Hmmm....I liked the first one more than I did with the second although I am looking forward to the 3rd.
To be honest when I was watching the 2nd film, I almost dozed off a few times. I felt that it was a little vague at times and the plot was perhaps a bit too weak.
Johnny Depp was still funny as Capt Jack Sparrow.
I must admit that I cannot remember much from the 2nd compared to the 1st. At least I do remember some brief scenes unlike "Tomb Raider II " which I have totally blanked out from memory which is frightening because I watched it TWICE...(okay 1 and a half times). haha
Lets hope Pirates of the Carribbean do a stronger storyline for the 3rd.
Ahoy Mateys!

The first, definitely. It was hilarious, dramatic and just the right amount of romance. The second was good too, plenty of drama, but I got a little annoyed by all the backstabbing and deception and the whole Jack/Elizabeth thing after the first was pushing for Elizabeth and Will to get together.

The first one was absolutely great because it had an interesting story with nice twists, and good humor. The second was an absolute rip-off, because it kept recycling jokes from the first movie, and Jack acted totally brainless, and hardly talked except in an babbling, repetitive way. And what on earth made them think that they had to bring back Barbossa!? Don't even get me started on how stupid the Fruit and Native scene was.

I prefered the first one, with dead mans chest we knew what we were going to get - another fabulous performance from JD as Jack but we'd kind of seen it all before. Still a damn fine film for sure but the first one edges it for me.
But like the questioner said - come on number 3 :)

I got really weirded out by Elizabeth and Jack kissing. Can't wait to find out who she's gonna end up with. Maybe, she'll be kissing with Captain Barbossa next?
But, I love both of the movies.

One, as 2 was a little excessive and went on about 30 minutes too long. Some judicious editing could have made #2 better

One was great and that made people willing to like 2 even if it wasnt great. I think it was funny but a lil too long. I loved the scene where they were trapped in the 'ball' thing swinging towards the mountain!
