I did it for my wedding shower and kind of started a thing with my family. I kind of think it's useless (giving someone something they may never use). On the other hand, I don't mind buying something small like travel size fragrant hand lotion or something.

The thing is, there are always a lot of people helping. In this case, 8. I can't buy 8 people a gift certificate. That'd be too much for us right now.

I never heard of giving a gift to the people who organize and throw a shower for you until recently!
I don't agree at all...the shower is a gift to the parents to be to get them started out on this new path of parenthood. Having a baby is expensive enough without having to buy all the baby gear! Since the shower is usually given by a family member or close friend I am inclined to say they are doing this to help out, not to receive anything in return. I wouldn't worry about giving a lavish gift to these 8 people....maybe an extra special picture of the baby when he/she gets here but that is all that I would do!
Of course this is my opinion...

Thats a really good question. I never thought about it until now. I mean I have helped throw a couple of showers & never recieved a gift. I didnt do it to get a gift in return. My babyshower is going to be in March & its thrown by a family member but it will be at my house. And what if the shower is a surprise? And a wedding shower is usually thrown by a member of the bridal party & they will be getting a girft for being in the wedding (most cases) so do you really need to get them another gift for the shower to? Its all so confusing!!

Send them a thank you note....with a "Save the Date" card in it. Pick a date that is after the birth of your baby....several weeks later. Your "gift" could be a catered lunch at your house....where the people who organized your shower could come over and see the new little person and you and eat some great food!!

Think of it as their own private audience with the baby....and a couple weeks after the delivery you will be ready to be social and show off that cutie, too!!

Have fun....GOOD LUCK!!!

For my baby shower, I had about 10 people organizing it. I decided to give each of them a gift bag with decorated chocolate covered pretzels, lip gloss, and lotion. I just decorated everything to make it look prettier. I think each bag cost me about $8. Everyone really seemed to appreciate the gesture. You can find really cute, inexpensive gifts at stores like Target-that's where I got mine.

My mother-in-law did most of the work and planned everything so I got her a personalized "Thank You" picture frame with a photo of the two of us in it.

I felt better letting them know that the work they did was very much appreciated.

I did for my baby shower. I gave out gift cards to restaurants. You can never go wrong with food!
Good Luck!

I think it would be a nice idea to give the host a little thank you gift.

Yes, I think it's a really nice gesture. And you don't have to put a whole lot of thought into it. Even just sending flowers ahead of time is something that would be appreciated by any hostess.
