This record is held by Donald Macdonald of Auchtermuchty, Fife.
He snorkelled for 100 yards in the Kirkcaldy Leisure Pool and Flumes on 14th January 2005. The pool had been filled with porridge for the occasion. 32 tons of oatmeal were used in this exercise.
Donald took 16 hours 22 minutes to complete his record-breaking attempt, cheered on by a crowd of at least 30 supporters.
As the venue was licensed, some spectators resorted to alcohol to relieve the boredom of the event. An altercation then took place between Donald's wife Senga and Mrs. Maggie McSporran, wife of Shuggie McSporran, the other competitor in the event. The Fife Constabulary were called, and 15 arrests were made.
The publishers of the Guinness Book of Records refused to include Donald's triumph in their esteemed work, saying that they could not give publicity to the unseemly debacle that surrounded the setting of the record.
Donald has now retired from professional porridge-snorkelling, and is at present engaged in a lecture tour in the US.

To answer your question, I estimate the world record for snorkelling in porridge is 30 seconds in salted porridge, and 45 in porridge laced with honey.

Heather Oats holds the current world record at submerged level. Using a hollowed out caber as a snorkel, she managed to wallow at a level of 14ft 7 inches for 33 hours and 17 seconds. She also held the surface level record, but was disqualified for floating on the skin.
