The transmission may have a lock out feature that will prevent it from actually engaging above a couple of MPH. It will simply ignore the shift lever action and keep it running but should slow the car down.
Some of the trannys depending upon your type, will shear the parking pawl off and you'lll lose the tranny.
You can also overload the valve body that controls the auto trans fluid, as the pressure change against the valves and orifices would be huge.
It's not somethign I would try under virtually any circumstance, use the brakes to stop, even if you ahve to apply the emergency brake, at least all that will do is require a brake job, much cheaper.

This scenario happened to my dad in 1988 or so. He was travelling about 45 mph at the time. The car did try to go in Park, there was this sudden stopping force, and a very audible weird sound high pitched whine. He realized his mistake though, and put the car in neutral as he pulled over to the side of the road. He checked under the car, etc...and everything appeared to be fine. He drove away, and the car and transmission lasted another 15 years.
On a modern car though, I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure most cars (especially modern ones) have protections built in that prevent you from doing this. Remember you'd have to switch to reverse before you can get to park, so that would be even worse...
Some car guys explained it to me, I think the car won't let you connect in reverse as long as the engine is at certain rpm speeds. A sudden shift and change like that could rip a car in half.

You'll probaby break the park pawl and may damage the planetary gear housing. At first it will rattle like crazy as the pawl bounces off the teeth. Once the car slows enough for it to engage it will either break or the drive wheels will lock up causing a loss of control.

The park kit works by using utilising an excellent provide up interior the rotating assembly of a transmission. think of of a kit with a hollow in it, in case you place a peg in that hollow, it would avert the kit from rotating as long using fact the peg replaced into table certain, top? same central. The noise you heard replaced into the parking pawl attempting to have interplay the kit. If the automobiles parking kit holds the caar in place now youre ok, even though it may be a sarcasm to declare that its no longer beneficial to do this back. yet, back, as long using fact the park kit works, dont say something on your dad and youre golden.

If you could get in park at that speed the car would stall. (It should have a fail safe) It is not good for the transmission. You would be looking at a lot of money to rebuild the trans.

If you slam that baby in park there is a pin that will crack right through your alluminum case in the transmission. Your car will still run and the transmission will still work, but that pin and case will have to be replaced.
What will happen is that when you put it in park your car will still roll and will have to use the emergency break to park and hold it still other than that that's all it does.

a series of things will occur...
1. some key components of the transmission will be destroyed.
along with some possible engine damage as a result
2. Driver and passenger will be thrown forward, and if either/or is not wearing a seat-belt, above mentioned "yahoo" will form a close and personal bond with safety glass.

I most cars, specially newer ones that isn't possible. But if you were able to there is no telling the what the outcome would be, besides a transmission that is worth absolutley nothing. It cause you to into spin or loose control.

You could do it. You would come to a complete stop & possibly rip the transmission gears out.
Then you would have to take it to the shop for repairs.
Why would you wanna do this anyways?
