Putting liquid in makes me nervous. The warning was on the outside of the cylinder and on the brake fluid itself. Does this mean cleaning the inside of the cylinder tank cover? What happens if it isn't clean? I also spilled a little of the brake fluid on the side when I was pouring it in. Is this dangerous?

Your good to go lady.

Your break fluid reservoir, where you put the fluid in has a screen that catches any debri that may fall into the "tank," for lack of a better word. They just want you to make sure nothing will fall into the "tank." This actually isn't really good advice because you may end up breaking up any debry and cause it to fall in.

As far as the side spill, not a problem, just a mess you should wipe off if needed WITH THE TOP SECURELY TIGHTENED.

Bostonian is right about not needing to fill your brake fluid but old cars may require alittle addition just because. If you added alot then maybe you have a crack in your line and should go to a professional but we don't know. You could also have air in your line but, hey, WE DON"T KNOW, and sure don't want the responsibility of your breaks failing.

They just don't want you to get any dirt inside the fluid chambers. Because it only takes a little bit to get inside the cylinder and then it will scratch and then lose pressure and when you brake your not going to have pressure. This happens when dirt gets in the cylinder. It doesn't take much dirt, but it wont wear it down right away. It will occur in about six months or less.

The same symptom happens here>>>>
WARNING~~~~
Do not ever put transmission fluid in a brake system.do you know what happens?

Dirty Deed Mechanics pour just alittle bit in each chamber and it travels through your break system and will eat out the seals.
Then they bring the car in the shop in about two months for brake work.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Don't worry about it, Dirty fluid referrs more to water contamination
more than dirt.
Water does not compress the same way that DOT3 does, and will create soft pedals.
Spilling a little bit is also nothing to worry about, if you spill some on the paint, just get it off as quickly as possible.

dont worry about it and spilling brake fluid on the side is not a big deal it just bruns up if you spilled a bunch it will smell for a bit but dont worry about cleaning cap of before putting it back no big deal unless you drop it in the dirt or something.

Acutally, you should never need to add brake fluid. It the level is low, there is something wrong with your brakes -- either you need a brake job or you have a leak. Get them inspected by a professional.

it is a eco hazard and if you spill it and do not dispose of the old fluid properly you can get a large fine if you get ratted out.
