Every woman and every pregnancy is different. You certainly do NOT have to gain 30-40lbs while pregnant. With my pregnancies I gained 60lbs, 24lbs, 40ish lbs and I don't know how much with the 4th because I avoided doctors and medwives like the plague. I tell you what, I am still trying to lose the weight from that 60lb gain. And all my kids weighed about the same. Eat healthy. Drink lots of water. Keep as active as you feel is good. Don't listen to the OB about gaining too little. YOU know your body better than anyone. As long as you are feeling good and baby is moving and growing well, don't worry. ENJOY your pregnancy.

Your doctor is a little off. It is healthy to gain between 25-35lbs. The baby doubles in size in the last two months You've gained, by your figures, fourteen pounds so far, not ten. Basically, you've got two and a half months left, so you need to gain 1-2 pounds a week. Don't worry, it will happen!
When we read stuff that says gain x amount of weight in 9 months, we think in our heads it should happen over the course of 9 months, but that's not the case. My doc says to think of it more like a race. You pace yourself for most of it, then sprint right at the end to cross the finish line.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm due two months from yesterday and have only gained 15 lbs to bring me up to 130. I taked to my doctor this morning about my weight concern, and told her I was especially worried because now that the baby's so big, I can only eat a little bit at a time before my stomach feels squished, and am actually eating alot less than I ever have! How am I supposed to gain 10lbs in 8 weeks if I'm eating less than ever? She said it will happen, even though it seems impossible, and again said not to worry. She's been delivering babies for 25 years, so I'm comfortable taking her advice.

First of all, if you started at 130 and are now 144 that is 14lbs and that is a big difference.
It is totally OK not to gain any during the first trimester and then 1 to 2 lbs per week after that. You seem to be pretty much on track.
Since the doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't worry. It will just be that much easier to get your old figure back after the baby is born.
When I was pregnant with my first, I didn't gain weight as fast as I wanted and I changed from skim milk to 2% and that helped a lot. It is more important that you eat healthy and not get many empty calories.
If you trust your OB then don't worry, if you don't trust him or her about this, you may want to interview other OBs. The last thing you need in the delivery room is an OB you don't feel 100% good about.
Although you may be like me and you just aren't happy unless you have something to worry about. I actually worried about not having morning sickness (until it hit me like a freight train)
Good luck. Relax and have a happy pregnancy. Happy Mamas = happy babies

Throughout my first 4 months i gained 2 pounds, then i gained a whole 7 pounds in my 5th month alone. Now i am in my 6th month and have gained a total of 10 pounds. My goal for the end of my pregnancy is between 25-35 and unless you are severely underweight, that should be your goal too (or unless your doctor advises otherwise). All baby's grow at different speeds, and all women gain weight differently, so your weight gain is completely normal. By now you should be gaining an average of 1 pound per week, but that could vary as well. Just try not to gain too much weight too fast like i did in my 5th month. And dont worry about eating enough for your baby. Just take your prenatal daily and eat a balanced diet and you will be ok. Your baby is like a parasite in some ways, as bad as it sounds, so no matter what you eat, he will get everything he needs. But that could make you nutritionally deficient. I'd say you are doing just fine :)

How much weight you gain doesn't necessarily determine how healthy the baby will be!!! If your doctor is not concerned about your weight gain then I wouldn't worry one bit. There is no need to gain 50lbs...these days doctors recommend you only gain 25-30lbs. They base this from your pre-pregnancy weight. Also, around the stage your at now is usually when the weight packs on...in my first pregnancy I think I gained 11lbs in 1 month!
Overweight mom's don't usually gain a ton...I am just starting my 7 month, I was overweight at the start and I've barely gained 5lbs total. Baby is healthy, happy, measuring perfect and all looks good. I'm not going to force food down my throat when I'm not hungry - it's really pointless!
Also, don't worry about what you look like - there is no set, standard belly for the different stages of pregnancy! All women are built so different from one another...some pop out early, some pop out at the end. I am just now starting to look pregnant and I'm happy about that - could you image being hugely pregnant for more than 6 months? It would not be fun! Enjoy the smallness right now because it will change drastically soon!
Best of luck!

As long as you are eating healthy, and you should switch to 5 mini meals a day, you are fine I'm sure. Remember you will gain a lb a week in you last month or 2, you should have had a sono by now, that will let you know that baby is growing properly. FYI...I gained 60 total and 40 of that was after the 5th month.....yikes, be glad your not like I was!

If you are seeing the Dr every month and he isn't concerned then don't worry about it. As long as you are eatig healthy meals 3 times a day and having healthy snacks then its fine. The weight gain is jus a guideline. I actually followed a healthy eating plan and lost 10 lbs in the pregnancy. Its perfectly fine. Mention it to your Dr at the next visit. You don't need to gain weight to have a healthy baby.

dont worry i actually lost weight in this pregnancy and my last due to morning sickness.my last pregnancy i only gained 20 lbs and that was all gained in the last 2-3 mon.this preg ive only gained 7 pounds and im due in 3 weeks.i eat what i should and when i should but cant gain weight.my doc is not concerned cause im measuring what i should be.remember that most weight is gained in the last few months so you could easily gain another 20 pounds here soon.but dont overeat just cause you feel you need to gain alot of weight.unless youre underweight or real unhealthy 10 pounds is completely acceptable weight gain at 6 mon.good luck!

well you have gained more than me. im 23 weeks and so far this past checkup is the only time I have gained anything! and it was a whopping POUND! They tell me my baby is measuring small by 2 ounces, and I have had a very sickly 1st and 2nd trimester so far. this week has been good though!
my doctor is not worried at all, the baby is growing and my belly is growing.(with my 1st I had already gained like 16 pounds at this point) so its very easy for me to worry.
But they keep telling me its all okay.
As long as you are gaining and your tummy is growing, your fine, unless your doctor gets worried, then its time for you to worry!
( I wish I could take my own advice, i have nightmares about delivering at 23 weeks or so all the time!)
Good Luck
