The Great Library stood in Alexandria, Egypt. And to answer why it could be a monument to Alexander the Great, simple, Ptolemy I was, among Seleuscus and Antigonos I, one of the three generals that suceeded to Alexander and split its empire apart, Ptolemy taking control over the egyptian part.
