Good Luck!

I lived in Seattle from 1983-1992. My last visit was in 2001 and I miss it every day. I loved walking around Green Lake and meeting new people there just by walking. I loved the summers with their low humidity and decent 70s-80s temperatures. The water surrounding the city lends it a seafaring feel and the smell of saltiness is in the air, not just around Pike Place Market. If there was an afternoon or evening when I had nothing else to do, I would go down to the ferry terminal and take a ride over to Bremerton and back. For the price, less than a movie, you could have wonderful live-action entertainment - feeding the gulls that followed the ferries, helping groups take pictures, meeting tourists from all over - it was awesome! The arts are wonderfully represented in Seattle. Churches were great. People were laid back and generally very friendly. And yes, coffee shops are abundant - wonderful way to spend time with a book or with that special someone. Seattle has it all! The only concern I had was the fact there is a known faultline near Seattle that hasn't been very active, but reports say there is major pressure building up, which could result in a catastrophic 9-point Richter scale earthquake in the future. But I was willing to lay that aside. You want a great environment - Seattle has it all! Hoping to be back soon!

I'm not an American . I've been to that region twice.I like it , beautiful nature. The people varied. In general friendly but a little bit self centered and ignorant. The people in Tacoma is more down to earth than the ones in Seattle. I found the staff at the Seatac airport rude , unhelpful and not friendly at all ! 3different airlines that I dealt with . Some of the staff couldn't even speak proper English . The food in the restaurants were average but expensive and the service poor. It irritated me that everybody has to receive a tip - even the hairdresser ! Seems as if all the racial groups get along but still a subtle undertone of racism here and there. All in all not a bad region to visit.

The people of the Seattle and surrounding areas are down to earth and friendly. Like in any metropolis, you will find the different cultures, which seem to blend together very well up in the pac nor'west..Seattle has a large gay/lesbian community, as well as do Tacoma and Olympia, and Bellingham, which is about 80 miles northwest of Seattle... Personally, I have lived from Bellingham, WA all the way to Shelton, WA and inbetween. There isn't a better group of people than those who really care about their neighbors and their community. I'm curious why you're interested in just the people...can you answer that here?

I moved to Washington state about a year and a half ago. I was surprised (at least until I gave it some thought) at the large Asian population here, although now it makes perfect sense to me. I like the region very well, and most people are nice, although I have to admit I've run into a few stuck-up types in some of the pricier parts of the area (but I suppose that would be true in any city, no?) The region is very diverse in terms of cultures, and very interesting to a woman who has never lived near the ocean before! All in all, I hope I get to stay here for a long time to come.

First off, you are putting an incredibly diverse population together into one group. The people in Seattle are different from the people in Tacoma which are different yet again from the people in Bellevue/Redmond. All in all, the people in Washington State, and the Northwest in general, are incredibly kind. If you want to learn more about the personalities of Seattleites then I suggest you start with learning the individual cultures of each city. You will find that each city has its own culture and vibe, which is part of what makes the region so special.

Seattle and it's surround areas are pretty diverse. It's really quite hard to say. In regards the population is still a majority of caucasians, but you have a good amount of asians, hispanics, russians, and african american as well...oh and of course indians (technically asians) due to Microsoft being right in Redmond. No one get offended as I generalize, but the question itself is so general it's the only way I can answer it. You will find more of your snobby rich people in Bellevue and Mercer Island, you will find more drunk annoying college kids in U district outside of downtown seattle and pioneer square on friday and saturday night in downtown seattle. downtown Seattle itself is a good mixture, Capitol hill is known to be the center for homosexuals, and of course like any major city there will be areas of seattle that are known to be a little more "hood"...whitecenter...rainier beach.
But as a whole..the people in Seattle are very nice. Unlike most major cities (i've been to chicago, LA, and NYC). I say the people are a lot nicer than people in general in LA and NYC. I can't blame the way people act in those cities because yes there are a lot of "weirdos" there...Seattle although a major city, is still very clean and tends not to have as many "creepy" people around..so the way people act torwards strangers they tend to be more accepting or open to exchanging a casual "hello" or a simple head nod..where as in other areas (NYC LA) people would give you a funny look or run the other direction. Chicago is somewhat similar (at least downtown felt that way).
Seattle is also a very liberal city, hence why there is a big gay/homosexual community in Seattle..there is ignorance like any place, but I say it's not as much as you would find..in middle states? but of course with that acceptance..comes people who think they are better than others as well..it's really hard to generalize people..especially of an entire city and its surrounding areas consisting of so many cultures, races, and classes. There's good and bad with everything, but as a whole I like the people in the Seattle area.

I think our state is full of great, friendly and helpful people..But of course you have your rotten apples wherever you go too.. I love the people here, (except my neighbor on the corner) but man I am sick of the rain...(lived here all my life)
