Here is my situation I am 29 weeks pregnant according to my due date but according to my fundal height I am 34 weeks. I have been measureing far ahead like that the whole pregnancy. I DID NOT have an early ultrasound alsomy periods where irregular. So I guess my question is do you think that she will arrive early or just be a big baby? Have you had a situation like this? Please share.

Even my big baby (9lbs 3oz and right on time) never affected my fundal height. In fact, I had to argue with OB/GYN about her size because I was attempting to VBAC and I didn't want her to get too big. My OB/GYN thought average, I thought she was big. I was right, she was wrong.

My worry would be that, let's say you go just off of fundal height. And you go into labor in four weeks. Ok...if you are actually 34 weeks now, then at 38 weeks your baby should be very healthy with no issues. But.................what if you really are only 29 weeks, and you go into labor at 33 weeks, that's a HUGE problem and if it all possible your labor should be stopped, you should be on bedrest and let that baby stay on the inside as long as is humanly possible.

So...here's what I would do if I were you. I would ask for an ultrasound to assess organ development and other fetal developmental milestones and base your due date off of that. You need some more information besides fundal height and your supposed due date based off of irregular periods.

Best of luck, I wish you a safe, happy and healthy pregnancy.

I has a similar situation at my appointment last week. I am 28 weeks but my fundal height is 30 1/2. My dr. said that fundal measurments aren't 100 % accurate and should line up with your gestational age within 1-3 cm. And if it's more than that the reasons could be error in conception, baby healthy but large, or to much amniotic fluid. Since you are measuring about 5 cm more there may be a conception date issue due to your irregular cyce or you are going to have a big baby. I hope this helps..

I doubt you are farther ahead then you are. Fundal height is an easy way to ensure your pregnancy is growing at a steady rate. (So if you have been measuring say, 2 weeks ahead and then at an appointment are suddenly measuring a week behind, they know there is a problem) It is normal to vary up to 5 weeks in either direction in fundal measurements.

If you have had an ultrasound at any point in your pregnancy, they would have seen then that you are farther ahead. Early ultrasound dating is the most accurate way to tell, but they would easily be able to tell if you were weeks ahead of what they had been estimating. You could have a larger baby, the baby could be hanging out in an odd position, or you could have a lot of amniotic fluid.

an ultrasound or amnio or way more accurate than fundal height measurement, fundal height could be measuring that way for many different reasons including being overweight.
