We will assume turtle had a bacterial infection of a sort caused by the terrible dirty conditions. Remove it from the tank and siphon all the water out, 100%. It would be good if you can wash the tank out in the bathtub or something. Clean all traces of algae off glass then once clean refill with slightly luke warm water about 76 degrees. Make sure you have adequate aquarium heater. DO NOT add chlorine remover. The chlorine is good for the turtle as it will kill bacteria. Make sure you have a basking area where it can climb up to and be warm under a heat lamp. If you dont have a heat lamp the any lamp with a 60 watt bulb should do. Just dont let the light fall in water but its gotta be close enough to its basking area to warm him as he comes out. Make sure you keep feeding it and change at least half the water once a week or all of it if you can until it gets better. Take it to vet if you can afford it. Hey ya gotta do all you can for the little guy (assuming its a guy) Good luck.

First for the food issue, I would suggest feed your turtle HBH turtle food in small bites which can be bought at a local Petsmart. I would also advice going to a Petsmart and talk to the manager in aquatics, they are specially trained to help with needs such as this. (I work at Petsmart in the grooming dept.) For the health problem there is something called a "Turtle Health Conditioner" made by Tetra. This is good for treating common diseases. Also Nature Zone makes eye drops for turtles. This opens and cleans inflammed eyes. All the stuff I list can be purchused at petsmart. I hope this helps email me and let me know.

It is probably a Red-ear slider, and the eye infection is the result of dirty water and poor cares.

Stop the drops and water pills, and just start offering the poor thing some good quality care as described at sites like hettp://www.redearslider.com or http://www.austinsturtlepage.com

For a good article on swollen eyes, try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medeyes.htm

If the eyes and other problems do not start looking better after a week or two of good care, post a note at the Urgent Care section of http://www.turtleforum.com for help.

Rise the turtle off in clean warm (not too hot!) water and pat him dry with a towel. The white around the eyers could be a fungus. Take the turtle to the vet right away!

wow he sounds very sick! im not sure what you can do other than take him to the vet ASAP.

this article says to give him a balanced diet and some supplement with vitamin A to clear up eye problems, but not too much.

i hope the turtle is okay! you should take that turtle from your friend because it sounds like you care more about it than she does.

DO NOT WAIT! He needs to go to the vet. For time being keep him in clean water and feed him as you are. Also go to your local pet store and pick up turtle eye drops.

A small animal vet can treat your turtle and you should not wait to have him seen

he has an infection you need to take him to a vet it is fatal and he will need a shot if he is going to have a chance. You also need to get a type of vita light to put over the terrarium to help prevent this from happening again. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck

before taking your turtle to the vet, put some damp cloth in the container and make sure there are air holes.
Don't let him dry out.
