My favorite boardgame is a eurogame called Puerto Rico. It is a strategy-based purchasing game in which opposing players are trying to earn the most victory points by shipping items off to the new world. This is a very competitive and chanceless game (there is no die rolling or any other chance-based progress; every move you make is decided by you.

I strongly suggest it if you like competitive, intelligent games.

I've a group of boardgames I've collected over many years. Some would be difficult to get, now.

I recommend them because:
They are quick to teach
Don't take too long to play
Reward skill but give a beginners a chance
(often no dice-rolling, so reduced pure luck).

Ravenberger's Metropolis
(a property game with no money, that requiers some cooperation, as well as competition)
Hare and Tortoise (the six-player german version Hase und Igel was better than the first UK versions)
Pamplona (being chased by bulls at the Spanish festival!)
They will turn up on eBay from time to time.

I won't give Monopoly house-room. It takes too long to play, has little critical decision-making, and it's obvious who's going to win a long time before they finally do.
A classic game, but badly flawed by modern standards.

Hi...I know this is a really exspensive game to buy but it really is the coolest game "RAT RACE" by *the now famous* Robert Kyosaki. Its a little like monopoly but its more, how do you say 'Adult' you take on actual job roles i.e. Doctor, construction worker, plumber, shop assistant...etc and earn a wage take risks on investments i.e. buying a small business ... loose big or win big ... the idea is to make enough to get out of ' the rat race' not to mention learn a little about yourself! its very real life and a GREAT game.

i would have to say my favorite board game is monoply. the game is so fun. i would reccommend this game to you because it's fun. but ,this is how you play it . you roll the dice and if you are playing with more than one person, whoever get's the highest roll on the dice goes first. then you go around the board and you pass go and collect 200 dollars. you buy different properties, you can put houses and hotels on your properties. you collect money and whoever wins the most money or has the most properties they win the game. hope you like the game.

I'm partial to Cluedo/Clue myself. Using the process of elimination to solve a murder mystery involving a rather colorful group of suspects, knowing you may very well be playing as the murderer- great fun.

I always enjoyed the game of Life. I also remember playing a game called PayDay when I was younger, but I don't remember what it was about, just that I enjoyed playing it.
