I don't know how to do it without the pain, but you get used to it. For the arch, get a pencil or something and hold it to the size of your nose. Extend the end of it up right in front of your iris - where it hits the eyebrow is where the zenith of your eyebrow arch should go - that's generally should be the thinnest part of the brow, too.
Try to pluck hair mainly from the bottom of your brows, not the top (except for stray ones here and there). Your eyebrows should extend no further than either edge of your eye, but don't pluck off too much. It'll look weird if your eyebrows start further out from the center of your face than your eyes.
P.S. Waxing eyebrows is cheap - get that done once - they'll do the proper shape, too, and then just tweeze them for maintenance - as hairs grow out, take care of them. That way, not as much pain, because you only have to pluck a few a day.
Good luck!

You can try numbing them with ice first. As for the arch, I'm not sure, but I think they sell stencils you can use as guides. But most nail salons do eyebrow waxing or threading for not very much money. It does hurt a little, but only for a few seconds, and it lasts longer than plucking. You can also try Nair, which is completely painless, but I found it doesn't get every little hair.

I don't know about the arch but to make it less painful put some oragel on your eyebrows before you pluck them.

first of all don't pluck a couple of days before your period. Also, make sure you get the hair from the root and not the end. it also helps to put lotion where u are plucking because then u won't pinch the skin. lastly, you just have to deal with it and practice. Believe me, when i first started plucking, it hurt like a mother fvcker......now that i've done it more it doesn't hurt at all. i guess that part gets used to it so just give it time and with practice it won't hurt anymore!

I put a very minute amount of baby Oragel on right before plucking. Works wonders.

well you can go get them waxed to get that perfect shape, then continue to pluck as they grow in. but always pull the hairs out in the direction of the growth and stretch the skin. it tends to not hurt that bad at all. believe me i know.

Get them waxed. The pain lasts for like one second, and they do a way better job than you probably would--it's like getting a manicure as opposed to you painting your own nails...
