I haven't heard anything, but it would be great if they are...! I just hope they realize what went wrong with "Enterprise". I am a dyed in the wool Trekkie and even I got bored with the show.
For a title how about these?

Star Trek: The United Federation of Planets
Star Trek: Missions
Star Trek: Intergalactic
Star Trek: Beyond Lightspeed
Star Trek: The Academy
Star Trek: Galaxy Patrol
I'm hoping in my life time there will be an all Star Trek channel. I can guarantee you my TV would be put on that channel 24/7!
I just read the thing about Tom Cruise. If he really cares about Star Trek he will stay far, far away from it. What a horrible thing to even think about...!

The MOVIE Star Trek 11 is currently in development by Paramount Pictures. J.J. Abrams (who did Lost) will produce and direct it. Projected release date is 2008.
The story is reportedly set in the early days of James T Kirk, so I suppose that makes it a prequel, depending on which series you're using as a reference. It supposedly will cover Kirk and Spock's first meeting the Starfleet Academy, their first mission together, and so on.
There's reason to believe Tom Cruise would appear in the film... because he's not only a Trek fan but has worked with the people making this one before (on MI3). But it seems that most credible sources cite Cruise as being recruited for a CAMEO role only. Like an instructor at the academy or some such. So no need to panic about him being the new Kirk or anything. (See link 2)
Last I checked, they were auditioning for a young 'Scotty' and 'Bones', so expect those characters in the movie as well.
