I think you'll be interested in continuing to research this subject after your college course is over.

If I were writing your paper (praise Terpsichore I am not): I'd be looking at the art movements and music movements.

One could then find the impact of Minimalism on plays like Waiting for Godot.
Improv (like in jazz) which influenced the director Richard Foreman.
Jazz music influencing jazz dance influencing jazz directors like Bob Fosse.

But, you may not want to work that hard.
Look at the Oscar winning movies that are translations of stage plays for the easy answers.
Marty from the 50's.
West Side Story from the 60's.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest from the 70's.

These are commentary and reflections of society.

Research 'Look Back in Anger' by John Osbourne - prior to it's first performance, typical productions were 'middle-class' drawing room type productions whose mould were broken by this first 'kitchen sink/realist' drama. Compare and contrast with 'An Inspector Calls' or any Agatha Christie. Other playwrights to look at would be Samuel Beckett and Tom Stoppard - don't forget 'Cathy Come Home' - a TV production but of major influence. Good Luck!

Class A drugs for most of it. There was a post war freedom in reality that allowed playwrights such as Alan Bennet to come to the fore. It was a cash thing allowing more freedom rather than the demands of "we must be entertained at a price". Really you could write volumes on this stuff. You'll have to choose yourself as to who are the big hitters.
